This weekend, the Syfy series Haven took a bold step by tying its storyline to social media. Specifically, Twitter.
The network sent out a press release last Wednesday and began flooding Twitter with recommendations to follow two characters from the series, @DaveHaven and @VinceHaven, as well as a mysterious @ColdInHaven. In addition, the series made plans to use the hashtag #HavenNews for the show’s Twitter feed.
According to the press release, this would launch a special seven-episode arc, beginning on August 12.
While @DaveHaven and @VinceHaven tweeted back and forth a few hours before the show, the micro-blogging story stopped there.
As the August 12th episode of Haven, “Roots,” began, fans expected live interaction from the show on Twittter.
Instead, viewers were merely introduced to the concept with a couple of amusing Twitter references in the show, as Dave and Vince both posted flyers in the sheriff’s office to entice viewers to follow them on their respective Twitter accounts.
As Twitter-savvy fans of the show turned up on the #HavenNews feed, they made amusing, sometimes snarky comments about the characters and storyline. But none of the characters tweeted during the episode.
One Twitter follower, @OmegaGreenbean summed up fans’ concerns, “They should have tweeted something at the beginning of the show, just to show it’s working. #HavenNews”
In the end, the Haven Twitter event started with a whimper, not a bang.

This is it for fans of The Cape. Instead of airing the final remaining episode on television, NBC has decided to dump it online beginning at midnight Friday, March 11. You will be able to find the video on NBC.com
Titled “Endgame” (according to the Internet Movie Database), the episode promises some surprises but — unfortunately — no resolutions. TV Guide had a sneak peek at the episode and provided this synopsis:
The finale will find Police Chief Marty Voyt (Dorian Missick) behind bars, in the hands of ARK Corporation. Vince’s “widow” Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) will take on Marty’s case — and ARK — in hopes of learning more about her husband’s disappearance. And The Cape/Vince (David Lyons) will find his double identity blurred when Max (Keith David) and the carnival of crime attempt to protect Dana, Marty and his family.
The network has no plans to renew the series. The original order for 13 episodes was cut to 10 earlier this season, after disappointing ratings. Since then, NBC has stopped actively promoting the series. Even the winner to the early-hyped “Submit Your Villain” contest was announced with little fanfare.

Meanwhile, Netta’s (guest star Illeana Douglas) strange loyalty to The Lich is clarified. In a sedated, weak state, Orwell drifts between reality and fantasy sequences, which slowly reveal her history and past.

It’s been a hard road for The Cape. The show has been struggling, but they aren’t giving up without a fight. This week, The Cape knocks things into high gear with a two-part episode that is guaranteed to kick things up a notch. But will it be enough to raise this show from an early grave?
Episode 7, “The Lich: Part I” begins the way most good stories do, with a man trying to rent a truck. But when the young woman runs his credit card, the system shows him as deceased. When she confronts the man, he blows dust in her face and apparently kills her. But he leaves her with the cryptic message: “Rejoice, my lamb. For he is risen.”

The Cape (David Lyons) and Max (Keith David) alert Marty (Dorian Missick) of the impending danger to the city, which backfires on The Cape. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Prisons, Patrick Portman (guest star Richard Schiff), aids Orwell (Summer Glau) in her search for the lone heir. Orwell locates Conrad through Netta (guest star Illeana Douglas), his mysterious caretaker, but soon discovers his deeply disturbing past and finds herself in danger. Elsewhere, Dana (Jennifer Ferrin) becomes increasingly uncomfortable with her new social life. Also starring James Frain (Peter Fleming), Ryan Wynott (Trip), Martin Klebba (Rollo) and Anil Kumar (Ruvi).

In a press release, Syfy announced that production has begun in Vancouver on the channel’s highly anticipated 2-hour pilot, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. Universal Cable Productions will produce the event with Syfy utilizing cutting edge CGI and virtual technology.
Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.
Joining Pasqualino and Cotton in the cast is Lili Bordan, who will play Dr. Beka Kelly, a Ph.D. who worked for Graystone Industries that created the Cylon robots. Currently assigned to a secret military mission, Beka and Adama quickly establish a rapport.

When you’re reading comic books, you accept the truism that everyone has a dual identity. It doesn’t matter if the person is a hero or villain, you can be certain that beneath that mask, there’s another person.
NBC’s The Cape has been pretty good about giving a duality to its major characters. So it’s no surprise that when Mena Suvari pops up on this week’s episode “Dice” as Tracey Jerrod, she also has another identity.
