This review was likely based on a screener, not an online viewing. Usually when something is available online, we post a link to the video. Sorry, Lindsay & Erik. Comment on First Look: The New Man of Steel by Lindsay & erik http://www.filmguru.net/2011/08/04/first-look-the-new-man-of-steel/comment-page-1/#comment-3872 Lindsay & erik Sun, 13 Nov 2011 00:14:32 +0000 http://www.filmguru.net/?p=1685#comment-3872 No, we do not like the new look. Not because we are used to the original look, but because we all.. that is most of us knew this was coming. Hollywood was so afraid of something saying, "Pantyhose" or "Tights"- so they 'beefed up' SuperMan's uniform to be a far much thicker material (guessing that also helps muscle up the actor) and even changed the texture of it. (Ego forbid people find it alluring!) This is the same step that Hollywood took with Robin Hood wearing baggy pants (Russell Crowe version), various other Marvel & D.C. hero's - and of course Halle Berry's "CatWoman" outfit... in fart-pants. (Yeah that went over really well). No, we do not like the new look. Not because we are used to the original look, but because we all.. that is most of us knew this was coming. Comment on Syfy Haven social media experiment has “troubles” by The FilmGuru http://www.filmguru.net/2011/08/13/syfy-haven-social-media-experiment-has-troubles/comment-page-1/#comment-3641 The FilmGuru Mon, 15 Aug 2011 20:26:36 +0000 http://www.filmguru.net/?p=1710#comment-3641 Bee, Agreed. The "first" episode in the experiment seemed to be only a teaser, not actually part of it. Which makes me question the timing of Syfy's press release and Twitter blitz. Maybe they should have waited a week, and let the show catch viewer's attention before broadcasting it to the world. Bee,

The "experiment"/storyline proper starts next week. You don't start something before you invite people, but then the Internets has the patience of ADHD goldfish these days, so go figure... I saw this over the weekend with a few people at Motor City Nightmares. None of us understood it. Whatever the intention of the film was, it did not translate onto the screen. Comment on Remakes: Franchise fever [Commentary] by The FilmGuru http://www.filmguru.net/2011/02/14/remakes-franchise-fever-commentary/comment-page-1/#comment-2539 The FilmGuru Tue, 15 Feb 2011 15:26:41 +0000 http://www.filmguru.net/?p=1575#comment-2539 Keith, you're right a good story is essential. My biggest beef with remakes has been that they try to use the good stories of the past and pass them off as something new. Yet, in changing a story, they ruin what made it good in the first place (like The Day the Earth Stood Still). I don't mind a franchise that has interesting characters, as long as they keep telling new, better stories. But I don't want to see Spider-Man's origin again so soon. Comment on Remakes: Franchise fever [Commentary] by Keith Russell http://www.filmguru.net/2011/02/14/remakes-franchise-fever-commentary/comment-page-1/#comment-2530 Keith Russell Tue, 15 Feb 2011 02:11:42 +0000 http://www.filmguru.net/?p=1575#comment-2530 Personally, I like a good story, and whether it contains all-new characters ("The Matrix") or old characters revisited ("Dark Knight", "Lord of the Rings"), a good story is essential. Most movies that get made, like most art, are junk. That's just the nature of the beast. (Sturgeon's Law: 99 percent of everything is crap.) If writers and directors would concentrate more on story, and (much) less on special-effects and franchises (to wit, Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel that morphed into a completely new project) and work to tell good stories instead, the percentage of good movies would surely increase.
