J.J. Abrams's Cloverfield?
At tonight's screening of Transformers, audience members received a special, unexpected treat. Before the film, the audience caught a strange glimpse of the new J.J. Abrams film. "What new Abrams film?" you ask. I was a little surprised, too. Apparently, this film has been under everyone's radar. The trailer needs to be experienced, but if you want to hear what it's about, read below:
Spoiler Alert!
The credits race by so fast there is no time to read them. The only thing I had a chance to catch was the opening date: 01/18/08. No indication on how Abrams is involved. He may be producing, perhaps writing. It is unlikely that he is directing. He is currently slated to helm the new Star Trek movie for Paramount, and this is probably part of the multi-picture deal he signed with them.
A little searching on the Internet revealed a name for this as-yet-unfilmed motion picture. It's called Cloverfield, although whether this is a working title or the title that it will be released under is unclear. Apparently, insiders are referring to it as The Parasite. Like I said, I missed the credits at the end. Maybe I'll be lucky and catch more the next time. Keep visiting FilmGuru.Net for more updates on this awesome trailer.
Spoiler Alert!
The whole thing was shot as if by camcorder. It involved a group of young people giving a farewell party for a friend who was going to Japan. The party is interrupted by a horrific scene of the city erupting in a fireball in conjunction with a monstrous Godzilla-esque roar. The last scene of the trailer shows a heart-pounding finale as a large object falls from the sky to land on the streets below. The object turns out to be the head of the Statue of Liberty....End Spoiler
