Indiana Jones and the...

When I read the recent article "Ford can still fit into Indy's trousers," I was surprised to find that a good percentage of the new Indiana Jones film is being shot in Hawaii. The article, by Associated Press writer Jaymes Song, states in part:
The movie just completed the first of three weeks of filming in Hawaii... The filming has created a buzz on this normally sleepy island, known for macadamia nuts and premium Kona coffee. It's the most action since nearby Kilauea volcano rumbled to life in 1983.

Hawaii will be featured in about 20 percent of the film.
That's when it hit me. I know what Indiana Jones will be seeking in the next film. Indiana's next great adventure will take him to an island filled with danger and mystery, where Others lurk around every palm tree and a strange experiment by the Dharma Initiative appears to be out of control!

I am talking, of course, about the ABC series LOST. They're already in Hawaii filming their show, so Spielberg and crew had to shoot in the same location to match.

I can see Indiana getting a message in a bottle and riding in to save the day. You didn't think the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 could rescue themselves did you?

Bruce Was Here

Bruce Campbell is one of my idols. Best known to fans of the horror genre as Ash from Sam Raimi's cult series Evil Dead, he exudes what it means to be cool in a very unconventional way. He's popular, but only to the really geeky types like me.

I love Bruce. I still think his portrayal of Elvis in Bubba Ho-Tep is some of his best work. I was thrilled to see each of his cameos in the three Spider-Man films. When I found out he had narrated the tutorial to the Spider-Man video games, I thought it was a real treat. When I saw him in the Old Spice "Ahoy" commercials, I was almost tempted to switch deodorants.

Today, while visiting the Screenland theater in Kansas City, I saw a bit of Bruce Campbell memorabilia. His hand (and signature chainsaw) prints are set in the sidewalk outside the theater. First, who knew that Kansas City had its own budding Grauman's Chinese Theater replete with stars' hand prints and signatures? More importantly, it was proof that Bruce had been there... and not long ago, according to the date.

Why didn't I know that he was in town? Why? Why? Why? Though I may have missed his appearance, I was able to soak in a bit of his legacy and capture the sidewalk shrine with my picture phone. It's a little reminder that Bruce was here and that a god walks among us.
