Austin Powers is Still Shagadelic
This Mystery Man Still Has Mojo
When I heard that Austin Powers was returning to the big screen during the same summer as the release of the long awaited Star Wars prequel, I thought "Now there's a bad marketing decision." And yet, after seeing the latest adventure with Britain's top "man of mystery," it seems that The Spy Who Shagged Me might have the mojo necessary to play in the big leagues.
In The Spy Who Shagged Me, Austin must travel to the past to stop the nefarious Dr. Evil from destroying the world. Dr. Evil, however, has launched a preemptive strike on his foe and used his time machine to steal Austin's "mojo." Without his mojo, it appears Austin is just another secret agent.
Mike Meyers returns as Britain's top super spy in this hilarious sequel to the outrageous 1997 comedy, Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery. But Meyers is no longer content with playing Powers and his arch-nemesis Dr. Evil. In addition, Meyers has also donned a metric-ton of blubber to appear as one of Dr. Evil's henchmen, Fat Bastard.
Thrown into the evil mix is a new clone of Dr. Evil. This clone is everything he is, but "at one eighth the size." The aptly named Mini-Me (Verne Troyer) provides comic relief, but he is also a is a surrogate son to Dr. Evil who is disappointed in his true son Scott (Seth Green, from television's "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer").
Luckily for Austin, he has some new assistance too. With his wife Vanessa (Elizabeth Hurley) out of the picture, Austin teams up with a swinging 1960s CIA agent named Felicity Shagwell (Heather Graham). Felicity is a female version of our randy Brit agent, who finds himself falling in love with her.
The craziness of the original film is still present in this funny sequel, even if the humor is a little lowbrow on several occasions.
