Short Film Rides the Fantastic
Wormhole Takes Travel in New Direction
Many short films are so short, they're more like a riddle than a story. In some cases, the audience is left wondering what the heck just happened. In the case of a good short film, the audience wonders what happens next. In Wormhole Chasers, a four-minute short film, the story barely gets started before its wonderous conclusion.
Wormhole Chasers begins as an eldery woman named Marjorie (Nancy Guerriero) is visited by a physicist (A. K. Murtadha). He explains that an extraordinary event is about to occur in her apartment. Soon a husband and wife team from Iowa (Travis McElroy, Del Gist) show up, followed by a New Age hippie (Kristen Lorenz) as well.
In a few brief minutes, director Gregory Zymet manages to turn Marjorie's world upside down as an unlikely group of people converge on her home to track down one of the secrets of the universe.
Wormhole Chasers is a fun ride, leaving the viewer wanting to hear more about these people and what strange trips they have made. If any short film deserved more time, this is it. While the short form certainly sets up the story for a clever ending, it only whets the appetite.
Zymet is a graduate of the NYU film school. His short film Apartment 206 has won several awards. Wormhole Chasers was produced for the FOX reality series On the Lot, but Zymet chose not to advance in the competition.
