If you’re like me (and I know I am) you’ve been frustrated to see all the hype around Thor (although I am dying to see it) and how little has been shown of Captain America: The First Avenger. Well, no more!
Not only will we get a glimpse of some video during this Sunday’s Super Bowl, Marvel Studios has finally released the first teaser poster for the film. This is AWESOME!
As you know, Chris Evans will play Captain America. Here he is, shield in his hands, as he stands sturdy and solemn as the Sentinel of Liberty. You’ll have to wait until July 22 for the movie to hit theaters. But keep tuned in to FilmGuru.Net for more updates.
In addition to Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including Thor on May 6, 2011; Marvel Studios’ The Avengers on May 4, 2012; and Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013.

Remember the original Thor teaser poster? Well, now Marvel Studios has released the French version. Thankfully, the French word for “Thor” is “Thor.” (kidding)
Sad thing is… still no helmet. Seriously Marvel, what’s up with that?
So, what do you think? Is the French version better? Worse? The same? Sound off in the comments section below.
Thor comes to theaters May 6, 2011.
In addition, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including Captain America: The First Avenger on July 22, 2011; Marvel Studios’ The Avengers on May 4, 2012; and Iron Man 3 on May 3, 2013.

Smallville promotional image ©2010 CW
Over at DC Comics, they released this promotional image for the final half of the final season of Smallville on CW. Though I only watch the show on occasion these days, I have to admit that the iconic imagery is engaging. The Superman symbol behind Clark (Tom Welling) really stands out.
But it’s the reflection beneath him that gives me chills.
This is a great promo. It captures the spirit of the series that grabbed me in season one, the idea that this was the beginning of something amazing. Seeing Clark Kent as he developed his powers and began to learn about himself gave us new insights into Superman.
But, as the series continued to unfold, it turned away from canon and built its own Smallville mythos that had little to do with the comic books. Characters were introduced into Clark’s life way too early. Heroes and villains appeared who should never have existed before Superman. And, worst of all, the series made a fatal mistake of turning into a typical CW teen soap opera.
Even so, part of me wants to see how it all ends. As much as it pains me, I may have to start watching Smallville again just to see how this whole mess sorts out.

By Odin’s beard! That’s a freakin’ hammer!
Chris Hemsworth stands tall as Thor in this first teaser movie poster from the upcoming film. Decked out in his Asgardian armor and looking quite imposing, there’s no question that Thor will bring the thunder this summer. Only one question: Where’s his helmet?
Thor just isn’t Thor without his helmet.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, the epic adventure Thor spans the Marvel Universe from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Last week, the good folks over at Kino International gave us a peek of the new poster for the restored version of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. As we reported previously, this classic silent film has been restored with 25 minutes of footage that was previously believed to be lost. The film debuted at the Berlin Film Festival in February, to great reviews.
While details of any upcoming U.S. theatrical release of this restored classic are still unknown, it’s heartening to see the poster. You can also follow Kino’s Metropolis on Twitter.

He is joined by Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer, Mickey Rourke as Whiplash and Don Cheadle as Col. James Rhodes, aka War Machine. Jon Favreau once again takes up the directorial reins for Marvel’s armored avenger.

Caprica promotional poster courtesy of Syfy.
Syfy (formerly known as the SciFi Channel) has given fans a sneak peek at the poster artwork for the new series Caprica.
The poster features Alessandra Torresani as Caprica character Zoe Graystone. The image, showing Torresani bare skinned, is suggestive of the Biblical figure of Eve. The apple with a missing bite represents the eating of the forbidden fruit and humanity’s fall from grace. The tagline reads, “The future of humanity begins with a choice.”
While the poster is sexy and likely to appeal to the geek-boy fan base, there’s more going on here than just an image of a pretty girl. Yes, it certainly caters to those who believe “sex sells,” but it’s also provocative. Simply put, it shows a maturity that is likely to be driving the new series. As with Battlestar Galactica before it, Caprica is likely to use its science fiction setting to address real-world issues, from terrorism to stem cell research.
For those who haven’t seen the Caprica pilot, the series is set in the same universe as Battlestar Galactica, but before the war between humans and Cylons. Caprica tells how humans originally created the robotic Cylons. What the “choice” is, I will not say. Watch the series and see it for yourself.
The two-hour pilot of Caprica is now available on DVD . Caprica debuts on Syfy next year, Friday, Jan. 22.

The House of the Devil
In anticipation of the coming theatrical release of the ’80s throwback horror film The House of the Devil, DreadCentral has a look at the final poster (in a series of six). This one is so awesome, I just had to share it.
For those who haven’t heard of The House of the Devil, is directed by Ti West, is a satanic thriller set in the 1980s. The film stars Jocelin Donahue, Greta Gerwig, Tom Noonan, Mary Woronov, AJ Bowen, and Dee Wallace.
Here’s the official synopsis from the film’s Web site:
Sam is a pretty college sophomore so desperate to earn some cash for a deposit on an apartment that she accepts a babysitting job even after she finds out there is no baby. Mr. and Mrs. Ulman are the older couple who lure Sam out to their creeky Victorian mansion deep in the woods, just in time for a total lunar eclipse. Megan is Sam’s best friend, who gives her a ride out to the house, and reluctantly leaves her there despite suspecting that something is amiss. Victor at first seems like just a creepy guy lurking around the house, but quickly makes it clear that Sam will end this night in a bloody fight for her life….
The House of the Devil is a Magnolia Pictures release that will debut in limited release on Oct. 30. If you’re not in one of the selected cities, don’t worry. The House of the Devil is being offered on VOD all during the month of October, including Amazon.com The House of the Devil (Pre-Theatrical Rental).
And it will also premiere on HDNet Movies Oct. 28. See HDNet Movies for showtimes.
